Royal Silk Foundation in cooperation with Hoshizora Foundation, Girlan Nusantara Foundation, Atsuki Community, Jogjakarta Entrepreneur Center, and all those who care about the disaster that befell Japan has held a "One Day Charity" with "Jogja Care for Japan - Let's Support and Learn from Japan " theme. "One Day Charity" is the culmination of a series of events that has been and is being conducted by some of the communities and people of Yogyakarta after the earthquake and tsunami that devastated several Japanese cities a month ago.

For this photo session, a tripod allows me to use ISO 100 in a low light room in the midnight and still delivering a crisp, bright, and noiseless pictures, oh how I love this new tool..

 

I use timer to minimize shakey taking, therefore low shutter speed is not a problem anymore since I didn't need to touch the camera while it works taking the picture. By using room's neon low lighting and a candle for a yellow cast, the color is pretty rich. Combine it with Photoshop's curve adjustment, we get a classic color mating. Indigo + Gamboge.

 

Sometimes I play with low shutter speed and move the candle light for pretty effect. Camera tends to catch object with more light -in this case a candle's fire- easier than the one without. I try to move my hands in front of camera in a very low sutter speed, but I only got distinct blur. But when I subtitute it with candle light, here's what I've got.

Cosplay | Amplaz 9/10/2010

It has been a long time I didn't have a chance to took picture of cosplayers since the last time in Vredeburg. Last week on a cosplay event at SMA 7 I was in Jakarta. So when I heard about this event I was surely planning to be there, packed with my photography gears.

Hunting on a Mall was a challenge! It's a crowd area, you need to adapt with the distances, spaces, people activites, and indoor light condition. I remember changing the lens all the time to get best results and I didn't want to make the cosplayers to wait so I've got to did it fast. Tight close up is easier to get with 50mm fix lenses. It gives nice bokeh and lot of lights for it 1/1.8 apperture. But its tight focal length could be an action killer for shot that need full body shot and dramatic wide angle, that was when I decide to change into my 15-55mm kit lense. I also need to push ISO setting into 1600 (!) because I knew I will need to move alot, and got distraction alot. I think some noise is more tolerable than having blurry and unfocused pictures.
But overall, this was a great opportunity and learning, I crave for another photographic experiences like this.
